We did a steering suspension inspection, found a couple of very minor issues with some sway bar links in the front. But obviously that wasn't the issue.  | The owner's complaint was that when the steering wheel was turned in say in a parking position, there's a crunching noise under the vehicle.  | The vehicle was brought to us. The owner had run the vehicle out of gas, driven it on the hybrid battery for a while. Then the vehicle died, wouldn't start. And so he had it towed to the Ford dealer. And they charged the 12 volt battery, found some codes for low battery voltage in the hybrid battery. The vehicle would not start and gave him an exceptionally high quote, in the thousands, to remove the battery and recharge it. Obviously the owner wasn't too happy with that. The owner had noticed steam coming out from under his hood, some liquid dripping down underneath and the temperature gauge was reading on the high side. Like a kind of clunk, a real rough engagement. These vehicles, just to put in some context, it's an actual manual transmission car, but is automatically shifted.  | So this vehicle came to our shop with a severe blue smoke issue, like it was just puffing clouds. It was like the old James Bond car with the smoke screen. This car had this. Of course you couldn't turn the smoke screen off. It was just on all the time. It was that bad. So there was a severe amount of oil getting into the exhaust system somehow.  | The transmission when you go to shift it, it wouldn't shift into gear. So it was basically stuck in park. And vehicle was towed in. The vehicle was diagnosed at the dealership and they didn't really want to deal with the repairs that were needed. There were also a couple other issues with the car. There was apparently a water leak in the passenger side floor, some wiring damage was what we were told, when the car came in. The dash was lit up with numerous warning lights. Originally came to us for an out of province inspection, this person had moved from another province to British Columbia, and it requires a safety inspection, which we do. So doing the safety inspection, we found a couple of issues, and one of them was a fuel leak coming from one of the high pressure fuel injection pumps. So, these provincial inspections are basically a safety focused inspection, and having fuel leaking on top of an engine is definitely a safety issue. | Aug 14, 2023 |

And actually this particular item we're going to talk about in this podcast wasn't one of them, but it was something we discovered while we were doing another service. We found was an oil leak coming from the oil filter housing gaskets. To replace those gaskets, we had to remove the intake manifold.  | I don't know if the vehicle was towed or drove to the shop, but it had a pretty severe smoking issue. Blowing a lot of blue smoke. Pretty severe. So that's why it came to our shop. Colours of smoke can actually tell you quite a bit about what's going on. With gasoline engines, blue smoke is a very clear indication that it's oil.  | This car came to our shop cause the heater blower wasn't turning on. The switch seemed to operate the heater blower, but there was no air being blown. So turning the air conditioning on would really only come on when you turn the defroster on, on this vehicle. It would basically cause the radiator fan to run. It's an electric fan, to run on high speed and it wouldn't shut off until you actually shut the key of the vehicle off and kind of reset it. So it's kind of annoying because you can hear a very loud warring noise coming from the front of the vehicle and it does waste a lot of electrical energy to run the fan on full speed. . | Jan 30, 2023 |
